William Whyte
William Whyte - the sociologist. He painted a somber picture of "organization men" who left home "spiritually as well as physically to take the vows of organization life." A recurring theme of the 1950s, in fact, was the conformity demanded of "the man in the gray flannel suit" was stifling creativity and blighting (rundown, spoil, damage) lives.
